Looking for children's contact lenses? Try ortho k   |   03.11.2009

Children's eye care was the talking point of a meeting in London yesterday.

The Children's Eye Health event was attended by 275 practitioners in the business and children's contact lenses were a focus of the proceedings.

Associated director of the contact lens department at City University, Caroline Christie, said: "How many children do we see in practice because their frames are uncomfortable or who come in because they need their spectacles repaired as they have been damaged when they are playing."

Ortho k lenses could be one solution for children that many parents may not know about.

Worn at night, ortho k lenses help to gently reshape the cornea, allowing for perfect natural vision during the day without the need for any visual aids at all.

In addition to being great for children who play sport, orthokeratology can also help control myopia, some studies have shown.

According to Ms Christie, only eight per cent of young people are fitted with contact lenses.
