Eat spinach to avoid dry eyes
Although ortho k lenses are obviously a great way to correct vision, it is essential to maintain eye health with a balanced diet too.

That is particularly the case for sufferers of dry eyes and macular degeneration.

Dr Jennifer Smith, a US optometrist, told Joey Holleman at McClatchy Newspapers: "If your problem is with the hardware of the eye, the cornea and the lens, that can't be helped with nutrition … [but] getting the proper nutrients can prevent [dry eyes or macular degeneration] from happening or prevent them from getting worse."

Top of the foods for good eye health is spinach, despite many believing it to be carrots that are best for eyes.

Mr Holleman added: "Carrots are nutritious, but the best foods for improving eye health are those with antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, essential fatty acids, vitamins C and E and the mineral zinc."

If you want to keep your eyes in tip-top condition, make sure to eat plenty of spinach.
