Ortho k lens wearers can benefit from collaboration with doctors   |   23.10.2009

When it comes to successfully wearing corrective contact lenses, it is important that people work closely with eye care specialists for best results, it has been suggested.

Orthokeratology lenses (ortho k lenses) can help people to correct their vision overnight, freeing them to remain glasses and contact lens free throughout the day.

However, they will only be successful in this if they work in "partnership" with their ophthalmologist, who will identify the best way for them to look after their eyes, the Baltic Times reports.

According to the newspaper, it is a good idea to see a doctor to check that your eyes are healthy before wearing ortho k lenses.

The newspaper said: "You must follow the doctor's instructions, care for, and wear the lenses correctly, and return as required for routine and emergency care."

Unlike regular contact lenses, which act as a substitute for wearing glasses, ortho k lenses do not need to be worn during the daytime, meaning that active people can feel freer enjoying sports such as swimming or skiing.
