People seeking dry eye treatments   |   14.06.2010

Dry eye treatments are becoming increasingly sought after as office air conditioning and high pollen counts leave people with itchy sore eyes.

People who wear contact lenses are particularly prone to dry eyes, as wearing their lenses for around 18 hours a day means that their eyes don't get enough oxygen.

According to a recent article from Penn Live, suffering from dry eyes can make people self-conscious as they look like they are crying and individuals with the condition often have red, sore-looking eyes.

For people who have severe cases of dry eyes, treatments such as artificial tears are unlikely to help, however, there are a number of other ways people can seek to alleviate the symptoms of dry eyes, including drinking more water, avoiding caffeine, using a humidifier and taking supplements such as flaxseed oil and omega-3.

Some anti-inflammatory medicines such as cyclosporine can also be a good treatment for dry eyes as it helps stimulate people's tear production.

One dry eye treatment solution for people who wear contact lenses is Ortho-K's overnight contact lenses.

The lenses are designed specifically for sleeping in and are only worn overnight. They gently reshape the wearer's eye, meaning they wake up with perfect natural vision and don't need to wear conventional concept lenses or glasses the net day.

As Ortho-k lenses are only worn for between six and eight hours they enable more oxygen to get to people's eyes, while the fact they are made from a special material means six-times more oxygen passes through them than conventional soft hydrogel lenses, making them the perfect dry eye treatment.
