Sports players given thumbs up on contact lens wear   |   22.05.2009

Wearing contact lenses when playing sports can be a worry for some.

A US physician for TeenGrowth.com has written in an article on Kansascity.com that contact lens wearing is safer than wearing glasses.

They also help increase peripheral vision over spectacles and are relatively easy to dislodge if they become stuck.

"The most important thing in starting to wear contact lenses is to be motivated to wear them. They can be fitted to your eye at any age," TeenGrowth.com added.

However, there is an alternative for those in sport that want to avoid the possibility of dislodged lenses during a game.

The Ortho-k lens is worn at night and gently reshapes the eye so that vision in the day is better.

For sports players, the night time contact lens can be a great option, avoiding the need for wearing sports eyewear which can be irritating during an important game.
