Eye health considered in new sun bed consultation   |   09.07.2009

With many of us wanting to get a golden sun tan in the summer, sun beds may seem like a good option.

However, a new consultation on the warnings that tanning salons display has been launched in Scotland, with damage to the eyes being among the problems that they cause.

According to the Herald, the new signs will warn that not only can sun beds damage skin in the long-term, but can also cause undesirable conditions such as conjunctivitis and eye irritation in the short-term if the correct protection is not worn.

Public health minister Shona Robinson said that she was "proud" that Scotland was leading the way on the issue.

As well as conjunctivitis, there is also the increase risk of cataracts through sun bed use, which anyone would want to avoid if they wish to have a life with great natural vision.

If you want to get a sun kissed look this summer and want to maintain your eye health, it is probably best to reach for the bottle and fake it!
