As people get older, many are rightly concerned that their vision will deteriorate.

Shari Rudavsky, writing for Indystar.com, has highlighted some points that people should bear in mind about their sight as they grow older.

When a person is in their 20s and 30s, it is important that eye checks are had between every one and two years.

As well as looking at vision, an optometrist can also see general health matters that occur as an eye problem.

Many people may be concerned that they might have to wear glasses because of a visit, but there are alternative options, such as orthokeratology.

Worn at night, ortho k lenses help gently reshape the cornea while asleep and are removed once awake.

They provide a very useful way of avoiding any other vision paraphernalia during the day, meaning a person can be free to play sport, go to school or work and generally go about their life without worrying about contact lenses.

However, it is not just people in there 20s and 30s that can benefit, people of all ages can benefit from ortho k.

One problem some older people may experience is that of dry eyes, with Ms Rudavsky noting that people in their 40s often experience it.

Again, ortho k can help with the issue, especially if the person wears contact lenses.

As they are worn at night, the eye is free of any irritants in the day which could cause dry eyes
