Journalist talks about monovision   |   29.09.2009

A columnist has spoken about his experiences with contact lenses over the years.

Lee Ostaszewski, writing for the MetroWest Daily News, has said that although he has worn contacts for a long time, now he is in his 40s he has seen his sight deteriorate quickly.

An optometrist suggested that he try monovision as a way of bringing his vision back to normal.

"You use your dominant eye to see distance and your other eye for reading," he wrote.

"In other words, with my left eye I can see fine from three feet and further, while my right eye sees clearly up close. In a sense, my eyes have become seeing specialists."

He noted that monovision took a few days to get used to but after a few days he can "open the sports pages and can read the box scores".

Ortho k lenses are great for all kinds of people - whether they need to use a monivision approach, play sports regularly or suffer from allergies and want to avoid daywear lenses, orthokeratology can help.
