Shortsighted people who are looking to perform at their best should be wearing contact lenses.

That is according to eye expert Mary Lou French, who was commenting on new movie Whip It, which features a storyline where a girl becomes a sporting star after she gains confidence from losing her glasses.

"Optimal vision is critical for optimal performance," Ms French said.

"Athletes of all ages should always take good eye health into consideration for their performance on and off the field."

Ortho k lenses would be perfect for someone who wants to enjoy their life practically free of normal lenses.

Overnight vision correction lenses are only worn while asleep, so the wearer barely even knows they are there.

They are a great option for sports fans who are keen to rid themselves of irritating day wear lenses that can get covered in dust or other debris during a game.
